Bishnupur is a popular city in the Bankura District of West Bengal and placed at about 132 km from Kolkata. It is popular for its terracotta temples and Baluchari sarees. Why Famous Bishnupur?

It flourished in the 17th and early 18th centuries. Ruled by a line of Hindu Rajas of the Malla regime, Bishnupur evolved a different form of architecture and has maybe the most ingenious and detailed terracotta work in Eastern India that has endured the ravages of time.

Bishnupur is also famous for the School of Hindustani Music which increased under royal patronage along with the Bishnupur School of Painting. This style of music is still being kept alive in local academies of music.

Jayrambati is popular for the birthplace of Sri Sarada Devi, the dedicated wife of Sri Ramakrishna. The flowing Damodar river and the clear air emphasize the holiness.

Nandalal temple is enclosed by beautiful gardens. The south-facing temple has square ground with a single tower sleeping on a curved roof. It is one of the many temples devoted to Lord Krishna in Bishnupur.
